Coronation Property has secured Coles as the supermarket anchor for The Erskineville Village Build to Rent scheme, marking a major retail milestone in the transformation of a former industrial site into a new mixed-use neighbourhood in Sydney’s Inner City.
Coles will deliver a full-line supermarket, supported by Liquorland, bringing a significant new everyday convenience offer to one of Sydney’s most established inner-city communities. Once complete, The Erskineville Village will be the only full-line supermarket-anchored retail destination in the primary trade area, responding to demand for grocery, dining, wellness and everyday services across the rapidly transforming Ashmore Estate.
Coles and Liquorland will anchor a broader food, wellness and lifestyle precinct designed to serve residents, local workers and the wider Inner West community throughout the day.
“Coles is excited to be part of The Erskineville Village and to bring a full-line supermarket with a modern shopping experience to this growing area.
“The new store will provide local residents, workers and visitors with great value and convenience across fresh food, groceries and everyday essentials. Together with Liquorland, we look forward to supporting the everyday needs of the Erskineville community as the precinct comes to life.”
Tim Roberts, of National Leasing, Coles
The retail mix is being curated to support activity from morning through to evening, spanning coffee and lunchtime takeaway, everyday convenience, destination dining and food and beverage operators that encourage evening and weekend visitation.
Located at 155 Mitchell Road, Erskineville, the precinct will bring together over 1,075 Build to Rent apartments, 128 Build to Sell residences, approximately 4,800 sqm of curated retail space and 7,000 sqm of public open space at McPherson Park.
“Erskineville is one of Sydney’s most established inner-city communities, but this site has been closed off from the suburb for decades.
“The Erskineville Village is about opening that land back up and creating a place that supports how people live every day, from homes and public open space to grocery, dining, wellness and local services.
“Securing Coles, supported by Liquorland, is a major step in delivering that vision. It brings a full-line supermarket into the heart of the precinct and provides the everyday amenity that helps make a neighbourhood work.
“This is what well-planned urban renewal should do: deliver new homes, open space, infrastructure and the daily services communities need to grow well.”
Joe Nahas, Managing Director, Coronation Property
The City of Sydney has recognised the scheme’s contribution to housing supply, affordable housing, public open space and community benefit, reinforcing the role of well-located density supported by amenity, infrastructure and everyday services.
“The opportunity at The Erskineville Village is not just to service the residents above, but to create a retail precinct with the strength to draw from the broader Inner West catchment.
“With Coles and Liquorland anchoring daily visitation, we are focused on securing operators that can build on that footfall, from destination food and beverage to wellness, health, beauty and personal services.
“It is a rare opportunity for operators to establish themselves in a high-growth, undersupplied inner-city catchment with strong residential, worker and weekend demand.”
Joanna Russell, Strategic Advisor – Retail and Placemaking, Coronation Property
Leasing is now underway for the remaining retail tenancies, with opportunities available for destination food and beverage operators alongside health, beauty and wellness providers. Tenancies range from approximately 30 sqm to 300 sqm, with opportunities for alfresco dining, dine-in experiences, premium takeaway concepts and boutique wellness uses.
The wider project team includes Silvester Fuller, Bates Smart and BVN, with landscape architecture by Turf Design Studio. It aims to transform the former industrial site and better connect it with Erskineville and the wider Inner West.
