Housebuilder and developer Coronation Property has welcomed City of Sydney Council’s DA approval for its $2.3bn mixed-use Erskineville Village Build to Rent development.
The 50,000 sqm former industrial site will be transformed into 1,075 apartments with amenities including outdoor kitchens, BBQ areas and gardens, an outdoor cinema and bar, yoga studio, sauna, pool and workspaces, alongside the 7,500 sqm ‘McPherson Park’ tree-lined walkways and an extensive a mix of ground-level retail and hospitality offerings on the ground level.
With Erskineville Village situated close to major education, health and transport hubs, 169 apartments have been provided as affordable housing, earmarked for eligible local essential workers and managed by community housing provider Evolve Housing. Coronation’s Build to Rent subsidiary Nation will operate the rental apartments.
“Erskineville Village will be a fantastic addition to Sydney’s urban landscape and is another example of how Coronation continues to transform underutilised inner-city sites into large-scale, design-led, neighbourhoods that will provide new housing, public space and amenities.
“Through the planning process, we’ve worked closely with Council, our stakeholders and importantly, the community, to ensure we’ve acknowledged the character of the area, whilst creating new structures and upgrades to critical infrastructure.
“At a time when housing approvals across NSW have fallen, we commend Council for helping Coronation unlock and transform a site which has been sitting inactive for too many years.”
Joe Nahas, Managing Director, Coronation
Located just four kms from the CBD, adjacent to the evolving hi-tech precincts of Alexandria and Waterloo, the Erskineville site is the largest remaining unencumbered parcels of land in the City of Sydney LGA and will be delivered across multiple stages.
Renowned Australian architectural firms, Bates Smart and BVN, were announced the winners of the Sydney City Council’s Design Excellence Competition for the project. The entire Erskineville precinct is due for completion by Q4 2027.
