Developer 30 Auburn Road Pty Ltd, a company associated with Anthony Crane and Raad Holdings, has been granted planning approval to develop a 558-unit Build to Rent scheme in Regents Park, a suburb in the Canterbury Bankstown area 22km west of Sydney’s CBD.
The site was previously occupied by commercial and light industrial uses. The amended development is to be delivered over four stages and the plans detail five buildings with an estimated development cost of $196m.
The Regents Park scheme includes the delivery of 135 one, 334 two and 89 three-bedroom apartments spread across five buildings ranging from six to 13 storeys.
It also includes 416 sqm of retail space, a 102-place childcare centre, and nearly 13,000 sqm of landscaped open space, anchored by a publicly accessible 3,000 sqm central park. Basement parking and internal road access complete the masterplan.
The central courtyard would be made publicly available, and the developer would be responsible for upgrading pedestrian crossings and bus stops surrounding the development.
The amended Regents Park scheme – which saw the number of affordable units decreased from 272 to 84 – was approved based on its strategic alignment, improved feasibility and meaningful public benefit.
The provisions were intended to encourage private developers to boost affordable housing and deliver more market housing according to the NSW Government.
Initial plans went on exhibition in 2022. An amended report went up for public consultation in 2024 – both replaced a previously approved concept for eight buildings of up to three storeys and 137 apartments.
