Developer PDG have started construction on the Boyd Village Build to Rent development in Southbank with a ground-breaking ceremony taking place in February.
PDG was joined by key partners and stakeholders onsite to celebrate the milestone at the Boyd Village development site, which included sod turning formalities and a smoking ceremony with a local Aboriginal elder, Perry Wandin who presented a personal ‘Welcome to Country.’
PDG is partnering with Investa on the 434-apartment development, which will be inclusive of 40 affordable rental dwellings earmarked for key workers.
“Boyd Village will provide Southbank with a diverse residential charm with its expansive park, green spaces, and array of leisure and co-working spaces, which will accompany the current communal facilities (such as the library, café and art studios) within the heritage-listed Boyd Community Hub. The new scheme is for Investa’s Build to Rent platform Indi. Indi will retain the tower and podium while part of the Ground Floor and level one Council Facilities which will be owned and managed by the City of Melbourne.
Boyd Village is a result of an agreement between PDG and the City of Melbourne and will provide affordable housing and public amenities to the community.
In collaboration with architects DKO, the design for the precinct will aim to include green spaces, landscaped gardens and a vibrant streetscape.

Situated adjacent to the Boyd Community Hub and located within the new Boyd Park – which spans across two acres of parklands – the Boyd Village Build to Rent development will build upon a former school site and its current role as a dynamic community centre in one of the city’s popular inner suburbs.
Boyd Village is expected to completed in 2025, led by PDG Construction Manager Josh Griffiths and in collaboration with builder Hamilton Marino.
