Australian development arm of City Developments Limited – CDL Australia – has revealed the name of its new Build to Rent development on Normanby Road in Melbourne – The Archive.
Now topped out and moving toward completion, The Archive will comprise 237 new apartments in a mix of configurations. Works began on the scheme last year.
Amenities include a fully equipped gym, extensive wellness area with saunas and cold plunge, podcast rooms and co-working spaces, a cinema, sky lounge, private dining room and outdoor barbecue areas.
The interiors of The Archive have been designed with the same care and intention that underpin its name. Reflecting its ‘space for your story’ ethos, the aesthetic choices throughout the building celebrate diversity and individuality.
During the design process, builder Crema Construction and Hayball architects collaborated to deliver a design that fuses modern and classical expression with elegant proportions.
From contemporary works to archival photography, CDL Australia and the designers have aimed to create an environment that feels lived in, layered and welcoming from the start.

Located in the heart of Southbank in the Fishermans Bend precinct at Montague, the Normanby Road development sits 2kms away from the Melbourne CBD. A convenient tram line divides the north and south.
The southern part of Montague is distinguished by its heritage and character-lined laneways, which are highly valued by the local community, while the north pays homage to the legacy of industrial uses such as the former Dunlop Factory along Normanby Road (once one of the largest factories in Australia).
