Developer Assemble has announced that its proposal for a new Build to Rent to Own development in Coburg has been approved. Situated on 511-537 Sydney Road, the new development will comprise 326 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Designed by Jackson Clements Burrows (JCB), the scheme will provide a bike workshop, 562 bicycle spaces, 156 car parking spaces, laundry facilities, a street-level café, rooftop area, BBQ and pavilions. Commercial offices with frontages to Sydney Street will also be developed.
“The development responds to the challenges of obtaining home ownership, apartment liveability, prioritising tenant longevity, communal living, public transport accessibility, and neighbourhood placemaking within a densifying Melbourne.”
Spokesperson, JCB

Aiming to achieve a NatHERS rating of at least 7.5-stars, the architectural design features a podium base supporting a distinctive two-tower structure, separated by an open breezeway.
This arrangement aims to enhance natural light and ventilation within the building’s core. Alongside this, the scheme incorporates a communal green spine between the towers, fostering a sense of community and promoting sustainability.

Landscape architecture and urban design practice Mala will design the ‘green spine’ within the approved development.
The green spine will comprise plantings, trees, two pavilions, ‘food cube’ garden beds, raised planter beds, a connecting walkway, timber bench seats, a central concrete pathway and a play area.
