The Property Council of Australia has announced that it has welcomed the NSW Government’s latest annual Women in Construction survey results, saying they underscore the critical need to foster greater gender diversity across the industry.
The Executive Director of the Property Council NSW – a member of the NSW Government’s Women in Construction Industry Advisory Group – stated that while female representation in the workforce had increased significantly, challenges remained.
The statement follows the Council, National Shelter and the Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA) calling for the Senate to pass Build to Rent legislation to release the housing pressures.
“Increasing gender diversity strengthens our industry, making it more innovative, reflective of our communities, and resilient. Women now represent 20% of the construction workforce – with the number of women entering the industry up by 12.5% over the past year— and this year’s survey reveals substantial strides toward greater inclusivity.
“But the data also highlights persistent challenges in workplace culture and career support for women, so it’s good to see Government and industry taking steps to reduce these barriers.
“Our members actively work to establish pathways for women to take on leadership roles, making sure the pipeline of female talent continues to grow in our sector.
“This latest survey comes on the day we brought together almost 800 property leaders for the Property Council’s annual Women in Property Lunch in Sydney to celebrate inclusivity and the impact of female leaders in the sector.
“We’re thrilled to see the NSW Government also prioritising mentorship, a strategy that has proven so successful in expanding women’s leadership opportunities within the industry.”
