Australian Build to Rent sector set to deliver 100,000 units

Oxford Economics Australia finds that the Australian Build to Rent sector is set to deliver around 100,000 units by the end of 2030.

According to Oxford Economics Australia’s predictions, supportive policy alongside market tailwinds and a strong pipeline of developments, total valuation for this number would challenge the $100bn mark, including a further 50,000 assets under construction.

Despite being a new and still relatively niche market across the country, the Australian Build to Rent market is projected to be an influential force on the wider rental market.

Whilst more established, the UK sector has been at the forefront of Australia’s learnings in this new and exciting market.

Policy reforms that were implemented encouraged institutional investment in the UK Build to Rent sector, leading to the delivery of 78,700 completed assets and a further 50,500 under construction in 2022.

As the Australian Build to Rent market continues to grow and demand for more reliable rental homes increases, reaching the 100,000 mark throughout the decade is not an unreasonable expectation.
